My Dogs
Theia
Theia, my spirited 9-year-old Shep-Ski, is a testament to the power of balanced positive reinforcement and discipline. Despite her strong-willed nature and a mischievous streak that belies her husky heritage, she’s become a well-behaved and skilled canine companion.
When she was younger, Theia’s boundless energy and lack of boundaries often led to chaotic situations. As an only pup, she was quite spoiled and her escape artist tendencies were legendary. She once even managed to disassemble her crate and escape through a closed window!
However, with consistent training and guidance, Theia has transformed. She’s mastered over 30 commands, excels in agility courses, and can be trusted to stay home alone. Her journey from a rambunctious pup to a well-trained dog has been both challenging and rewarding.
My experiences with Theia, under the tutelage of skilled trainers, have shaped my approach to dog training. Her progress has instilled in me a deep understanding of canine behavior and a passion for helping other dog owners.
Chief
Chief, Theia’s younger brother, is a 7-year-old Shep-Ski. Though they share parents, their personalities couldn’t be more different. While Theia was strong-willed, Chief is more gentle and eager to please.
Training Chief was a smoother process compared to Theia. Armed with the skills I’d honed from training Theia, and benefiting from the positive culture I’d established with her, Chief’s training progressed rapidly. Starting formal training at just 6 months old, he quickly picked up new commands and tricks.
Chief’s personality and disposition came more from his German Shepard father. He’s less stubborn and more of a protector than a fighter. He’s always ready for a cuddle and can sense when someone needs comfort. While he’s not as high-energy as Theia, he’s still a playful and intelligent dog. Chief’s story highlights how mixed breeds can inherit unique traits from their parent breeds, resulting in diverse personalities.
